| Sarah Jane married D.L. Ryals in 1893. Together they had Clinton, Jenna C, William M, David N, and Daniel L. I don't know what happened to D.L. Ryals or even what D L stands for but something happened and she married someone else. She married Joe R. Wilson and then had Lizzie, Rosela, and Mary. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Legends
I found a Ryals Family Genealogy Forum (see link on the side) and found a lot of legends about where the Ryals family comes from. Several people said the family legend is that the Ryals were kicked out of Ireland for horse thievery and sent to the Americas. When the first Ryals/Ryall/Rial/Rio (or whatever) arrived it was to the Carolinas and then moved to Savannah.
Another person said this, "Ryals,Royall,Royal, etc. are all descendants of the Norman ancester, Turston Du Roi. In ancient and medieval times, the Du roi family occupied a baronage on the west bank of the river Seine, in Normandy. They were powerful figures in the political and economical life of the province under William, Duke of Normandy. They accompanied the Duke in the invasion of England in 1066, where the became King of England, and known as William the Conqueror. "
I just find the legends interesting. That's all they are though. So, let's find out which ones are true. ;)

Annie Aline Ryals
My Granny! :) I thought I'd look her up and found this...
Apparently, when my grandma was 7 she went by Annie which is her middle name but according to this, her first name... ??? I never knew she went by Annie as a child. I thought this was neat so thought I'd post it here to remember it. :)
Okay, I recently learned that my grandma's name wasn't Aline Annie but Annie Aline. She just preferred Aline. ;) Interesting.... We've had it wrong this whole time.
Also, just in case I ever need it, here is her social security number and other random info that may be useful. Who knows!

Jordan E. Poppell
Some places his name is written as Jordon. I'm not sure which one is correct.
When Jordan was a teenager, he joined the Civil War in 1863. He joined the 1st GA Battalion, 5th GA Cavalry, Company K. They called themselves the "McIntosh Light Dragoons". Here is more information on the group.
In a census done in 1880, we learn that Jordan was married to a woman named Edintine W. and they had 2 children, Jordan and Sarah J. I am a descendant through Sarah. According to the census, Jordan was a farmer and Edintine's occupation was written in as "keeping house". I assume that means she took care of her own home and children. They were about 30 years old at this time. "Little" Jordan was 9 and Sarah was 7. They lived in District 24 of Liberty County, Ga. Liberty County is just a little north of McIntosh County.
Edintine died. I don't know when. And left Jordan as a widower raising two children. On November 17, 1889, he married Rachel R. Sullivan. I'm not sure which children were Rachel's before they were married but I'm sure most of them since they were only married for a year. The children added to their crew were Harry M, Annie L. Phillip A., James F., and an unnamed child. My guess would be that Harry, Annie, Phillip, and James were Rachel's and the unnamed child was theirs because in 1890 Jordan died.
Here is an inventory of items at the time of his death:

Why am I doing this?
This is a private blog where I will put the information and stories I learn about my ancestors as I search my family history. On my dad's side we only had up to my great grandparents. Hopefully, together, we can learn more about where we come from. :) Make sense? Yeah, I thought so too! :)
