When Jordan was a teenager, he joined the Civil War in 1863. He joined the 1st GA Battalion, 5th GA Cavalry, Company K. They called themselves the "McIntosh Light Dragoons". Here is more information on the group.
In a census done in 1880, we learn that Jordan was married to a woman named Edintine W. and they had 2 children, Jordan and Sarah J. I am a descendant through Sarah. According to the census, Jordan was a farmer and Edintine's occupation was written in as "keeping house". I assume that means she took care of her own home and children. They were about 30 years old at this time. "Little" Jordan was 9 and Sarah was 7. They lived in District 24 of Liberty County, Ga. Liberty County is just a little north of McIntosh County.
Edintine died. I don't know when. And left Jordan as a widower raising two children. On November 17, 1889, he married Rachel R. Sullivan. I'm not sure which children were Rachel's before they were married but I'm sure most of them since they were only married for a year. The children added to their crew were Harry M, Annie L. Phillip A., James F., and an unnamed child. My guess would be that Harry, Annie, Phillip, and James were Rachel's and the unnamed child was theirs because in 1890 Jordan died.
